Senna is hands down my new favorite documentary. For a movie about a race car driver in Formula 1, a sport I have never watched or cared about, who knew it would be able to get me to cheer out loud at my screen, and absolutely sob my heart out? To me, a good documentary makes you care about something you didn’t before, as well as educating you. Not only is this movie incredibly fast-paced, with a great soundtrack, it has some of the best editing I haveeverseen. There is so much footage of Ayrton Senna, Brazilian 3 time Formula 1 world champion, that the movie never once cuts away to your usual documentary talking heads. Thus, you get a documentary experience that plays like a narrative film, since the only narration is heard, laid over shots of what was going on, and the people giving it are never seen. What you end up with is an unbelievably tense, joyous, and devastating ride. It’s available on DVD or netflix instant watch, so if you have netflix and have some free time this weekend, I cannot recommend this enough. I assure you, I was skeptical too when I heard the critical acclaim this movie is getting, but it will completely blow you away. 5/5
